Review: The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls by L.J. Smith

About~ Elena Gilbert’s love, the vampire Stefan Salvatore has been capture and imprisoned by demonic spirits who are wreaking havoc in Fell’s Church. While her friends Bonnie and Meredith explore the evil that has taken over their town, Elena goes in search of Stefan.

In order to find him, she entrust her life to Stefan’s brother, Damon Salvatore, the handsome but deadly vampire who wants Elena, body and Soul. Along with her childhood friend Matt, they set out for the slums of the Dark Dimension, where Stefan is being held captive. It is rumored to be a world where vampires and demons roam free, but humans must live enslaved to their supernatural masters…

Elena will stop at nothing to free Stefan. Yet with each passing day the tension between Elena and Damon grows, and she is faced with a terrible decision: Which brother does she really want?

Back in Fell’s Church, Bonnie and Meredith have made some dire discoveries. They hastily try to follow Elena and warn her—only to be caught up in Elena’s most dangerous adventure yet.

My Review~ I love so many things about this book, I don’t know what to start complementing on first.

Well, I guess I could start on how I love that Elena’s character matured. She is no longer the girl who cares about her looks, but instead she cares about her friends, Stefan, and the town of Fell’s Church, and she would do anything to protect them all.

I also love that readers got to see a whole new side of Damon. Readers not only get to see the bad-ass vampire Damon Salvatore, but they also get to see the vampire side of him that cares for Elena and his little brother Stefan.

Speaking of Stefan, as the story went, I started to miss Stefan more and more. I missed how he and Damon fight, I missed how he tells Elena how much he loves her, and I just missed Stefan altogether. He’s an easy character to love.

And as always, I love the fact that the story is told from many different point of views. I also love all the new characters; like Lady Ulma and Sage for example.

But what surprised me the most was the ending. It was never what I would have expected. Not by a long shot. This might be the best book in the series as of yet. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us in the next upcoming book in The Vampire Diaries series. I recommend readers to put this book on their TBR pile pronto.
